The Sables d’Olonne

The town which hosts Vendée Globe may need no introduction to some. This famous sailing boat non-stop race around the world has showcased many skilled and courageous sailors, braving the ocean’s perils and pushing further forward human achievement. Yet, while this event contributed to the fame of Les Sables d’Olonnes, countless were those already familiar with the irresistible charms of this town.

The old part of town, (the port of La Chaume, Penotte Island), it’s narrow, winding streets make it an indisputable a pleasure to walk through.

There you will find some of the most beautiful, sandy beaches in the whole of Vendée.

Fishing and water sports enthusiasts have plenty to enjoy and discover there too.

Finally, you could delight in the multitude of stunning cycle paths and ride along the unspoiled coast to enjoy some incredible scenery.

If you’re a night owl or if you’re just looking for a good restaurant to spend the evening, you will not be disappointed by the variety of entertainment available (shows, concerts etc,..). And of course there are the delights of local produce at the chef’s table (try the seafood, a regional specialty and truly delicious!).
